Kinlake is a small fishing town located on the south-west side of the same-named Kin Lake. There is one fish-market and a harbor for boats. The town is defended by a dilapidated palisade, with a small castle in the center of town. Water is supplied by the nearby lake.

It is governed by a council of the seven noble families living in and around the town. Lady Karla is the leading noble and leader of the local forces.

The local temple of Light and shrines are overseen by High Curate Jerrell.

There are 7 taverns in Kinlake. The Loud Lion Meadehall is the best of the bunch, with the Tooth Tavern having a foul, rough reputation as the worst tavern within several days travel. The only inn, The Wharf Resthouse, is a popular and comfortable place.

Magic is frowned upon, but not completely illegal in Kinlake. Weapons are confiscated from visitors to the castle, unless under command of noble. Gladiator fighting is illegal.

The Southern Seas campaign was an online Play-By-Post campaign in the Dark Ages world, running since 2009. It centered around the town of Skalfier, located in the Duchy of Occidens, and reached its climax in the fabled island-city of Ramathia!

The Southern Seas campaign started off as a media-rich Play-by-Post game hosted on the old Google Wave product. After a hiatus and Google Wave shutting down, the play moved to Rizzoma and Roll20. Rizzoma became too unreliable, so we moved to Discord and concluded the campaign there.

The Eastern Borders campaign was the original tabletop campaign in my homebrew Etinerra world, running from 2009 to 2020. It centered around the town of Enonia, located in the Duchy of Irecia. It followed a group of heroes attempting to unravel the secrets of The Doom and the Dark Ones, attempting to prevent the Dark Ones' return!
Unfortunately, COVID happened and between that, and folks moving away, dropping out, the campaign petered out. It was left unfinished, and I hope someday that the heroes can reassemble and finish what they started!

The Damned (also known as The Afflicted) is the name given to those infected by the plague (The Affliction) that arose during The Doom. The Damned infect others by biting them. The Damned will attack any uninfected person who touches them or somehow “wakes” them.

The Damned are not like zombies or other unnatural undead, but they do seem to have the ability to not age while in a dormant state. Some say the Damned will never die, but will forever wait for the flesh of the undamned to feast upon. It does not appear that the Damned retain any intelligence, only a mindless need to attack uninfected and feast on their flesh.

The Church of the Light believe that it is a disease and treat it as such, when possible. (see: Additional Spells#Detect_Disease) Clerics can pray for the miracle of curing disease and this might free the victim of the disease, but it is not always a guaranteed result. The disease leaves a permanent scar on a person’s well-being and vitality. The nature of the disease, the Church claims, is that it is a spread affliction of spirit, starting when human-kind gave up on the best things that make them human. This spread of "Darkness and Damnation" can only truly be stopped when human-kind stand up united against the darkness of The Doom.

Some practitioners of Arcane knowledge claim to have found clues of chaos magick that might explain the Affliction, but these are largely ignored.

The wispy bird will deliver the scroll, which will appear whole and unburnt in the receiver's hands. To reply to the message, another mage writes a reply directly on the delivered scroll, using magical language and glyphs. The mage replying must then burn the scroll. The response appears on the scroll copy that is with the original caster immediately.
Almon is the neutral god of travelers.

Almon is a little known god, mainly only to itinerant travelers. He is a quiet and unassuming god, appearing occasionally when the mood suits him. His avatar is usually of a weary, tired, road-worn traveler, accompanied by a three-legged dog and a raven.

Almon's priests, druids and monks are wanderers. There are no known temples for him, but shrines are often at gathering places or near towns/villages kind to travelers.

Almon rarely directly aids those in need, instead letting them help themselves or letting his disciples provide. Followers say this is because Almon sent his dog once to aid a champion of his; as a result, the dog lost a leg. Almon became angry and decided to go hands-off.

This may also by why there are no paladins of Almon, if Almon does not grant powers directly to his priests and champions.

Almon is also known as The Endless Wanderer, Almon the Homeless, or The Eternal Traveler.
The founding of the worship of Tangadorin
Nelfig was a fabulously rich merchant who, the year 905 YK, was inspired by a vision from the god Tangadorin. This was an unknown god, as far as he could tell, so he would be the first priest. He was so inspired that over the course of the next 10 years, he had a tower constructed to the glory of Tangadorin in the plains. He scoffed at those who called such a structure "folly" and said they were short sighted, that Tangorin would protect the tower and all it's glass from the weather and depredations of beasts/bestials. It nearly bankrupted him, but he overcame all obstacles and eventually it was built. He also had the Word of Tangadorin written, as well as the construction of the holy Scepter of Obedience and Light, which Nelfig himself would always carry to enforce the will of Tangadorin on those who might beset the followers or protect himself should he be attacked. He gathered most of his flock around him (some were to stay behind and continue to witness for the all-seeing eyes-of-light Tangadorin) and would proceed in a holy pilgrimage from Irecia to the Tower to set up the temple, in 915 YK. Legend holds that Nelfig never was seen again.

It is rumored that his apprentice was one of the founding visionaries of the Church of the Light, after Nelfig was lost.

Overview
Vanir is the lawful god of glorious battle.

Worshipers of Vanir favor a simple, but harsh life of combat and facing the forces of Nature face first. It is a bloody religion where the priests can go into blood-lusts with their battleaxes, eschewing prayers and miracles in exchange for the frenzied taking of an enemy’s life.

Chapels and shrines of Vanir resemble long halls made of logs, with earthen and simple rustic furniture inside. Altars of Vanir typically have axes and eagles adorning hearths spattered with blood.

History
As the Kingdom of Man expanded into wild lands following the fall of the Dark Ones, it fell to a rough and hardy group of warriors to enter the mountains and frozen lands to the north to establish rule of Law. Whether due to the lack of a steady supply and communication with the Kingom, or in reaction to the brutal conditions, the men of the North began worshiping the god Vanir.

The Commands of Vanir
Life is to be faced on one’s feet, without cowardice. Fear makes one grip one’s axe tighter. Never let fear turn your feet. Live only to fight another day.
Give your enemies no quarter and take their blood. Give your friends and allies all of your duty and trust and never betray them.
Rely not on trickery and deceit, but rather show your enemies the true measure of your power and faith. Vanir cares not for your wily ways, but rather the glory of your conquests and battles, whether you live or die.
Houserule – Blood Frenzy of Vanir
Priests of Vanir may use a battleaxe in combat as follows:

They may not cast spells for the duration of combat once they have entered their blood frenzy.
Critical hits do double or max damage, plus give you one extra attack that round. Subsequent criticals that same round do not accumulate.
If you fumble and/or lose your weapon, you cannot stop to pick it up, but will continue to attack with your bare hands.
Recovery time after combat is doubled to two turns, no spell casting during that time.
* All who live in the darkness of unlife shall be destroyed, for they cannot be brought back to Tangadorin's Light.
* All must be told of the benefice of Tangadorin. His light must shine in the hearths and hearts of all.
* All who bring the Word of the Light of Tangadorin must walk truthfully in his Light always, for Tangadorin knows all and sees all.
* All who bend arcane power can find solace and protection in Tangadorin's Light, for he welcomes the generous donation of the fruits of their mystic labors.

Paladins of Tangadorin
Paladins (champions) of Tangadorin have the following abilities, which replace the abilities of the "core rules" paladin.

* Improved saving throws (same as "core rules")
* Can Cure Disease or Cure Blindness once per week.
* Can Detect Magic at 60', provided he concentrates on doing so.
* Has a constant "Protection from Chaos" circle of 10'
* Can "lay on hands" and cure 2hp/level of wounds, once per day.
* At third level, can perform a Comprehend Languages, Detect Illusion, Detect Invisibility, Detect secret doors/passages/pits/traps (roll 1-2 on d6), each ability can be used once a day. All four can be used in a single day.
* Tangadorin will grant a warhorse at 4th level that is (either Pegasus or an Air Elemental)
* Bonus attacks and clerical spellcasting abilities (same as "core rules")
Overview
Ramathia is the name of an island and city off the southwestern coast of the Duchy of Occidens in the Lands of Men.

The city itself is old and vast and, prior to the Doom, was once a source of great sea trade and exploration, as well as serving as the seat and capital of the Duchy. There were many harbors around Ramathia, serving all sorts of ships as well as a large fleet of the King’s Navy. The island itself held a great and dormant volcano that held endless caves and passages underneath its flanks. The port city of Skalfier, on the mainland, was established to serve as the connection between Ramathia and the Kingdom.

The Duchy abandoned Ramathia in 3 AD and it has not been resettled, or even visited, since. Rumors abound that pirates have settled in Ramathia and are living like kings off the abandoned wealth and riches there.
History
The city was established by the Elves when they arrived to the Lands. The city was known as Ricoer (in ancient Elven tongue, meaning "First City" or possibly "Freedom City"). When the civilized races gained their freedom, the Elves allowed the humans to claim the city and island as theirs.

During The Doom, great sea creatures, strange humanoids living under the waves and the ocean itself plunged Ramathia into war and chaos. The great volcano erupted, burying a portion of the great sea city in ash and lava. Harbors and coastal villages were destroyed.
Recent Events
Elven Conclave
In the Fall of 56AD, elves from the southern lands held a Conclave in Skalfier and declared a Search would be held in Ramathia to find any records that might have survived that could shed light on the location of the lost elven homelands. Hints of this possibility had been discovered by a group of adventurers (The Southern Seas Campaign) exploring a lost mage's library, and shared with the Conclave by Graian, an elven mage and member of the adventuring party.
Elven Search to Ramathia
In Summer of 57AD, three elven ships (Lustrina, Amarisa, Celesta) left Skalfier and traveled to Ramathia. The elven Foamfollower and Seadreamer families were the leading representatives. The ships arrived safely at the city harbor, but the Lustrina was lost to a strange whirlpool inside the harbor. The remaining ships made landfall to the west of the city along the island coast.

Elves and adventurers set out to explore the city. They made contact with surviving Wild-folk and were guided into the city. Exploration of the city found it somewhat intact, though there was much damage from the volcanic eruption during the Doom, and a large crater/sinkhole in the center of the city.

Further exploration of the island to the northwest of the city led the elves to the location of the first landing of elves. Ruins of elven structures were found, as well as carvings which shared a much different story of the landing than was common belief among the elves!

The Arrival of the First Elves
The carvings, as confirmed and detailed by the Search's Elder Eriael, gave a much different account of how the Elves arrived. They were refugees of a race of elves that lived under the Sea!

As Eriael told it:
<blockquote>
We did not arrive to Nicoer by ship, lost from our homelands. We arrived from under the ocean's waves, fleeing the tyranny of constant strife, never-ending wars between cities that drenched our history in blood. Sindrill was a king of a city who tired of watching his kin and followers die. He was a powerful leader, beloved by many not just of his city, but of other cities. It is said that he alone would be merciful in siege and battle, where other kings would slaughter entire armies, he would allow the citizens to return.

This resulted in the terrible anger of many of the other kings and finally one emerged, Nacalmo, who swore to destroy Sindrill. The good king recognized that the cost to defend against Nacalmo would be terrible. So, he gathered those who wanted to find a new life and fled. They were declared rebels and traitors by the other cities and pursued.

A wise and powerful elf queen and sorceress, Tenyana, had been promised by her father to Nacalmo upon his success against Sindrill, but Tenyana fell in love with Sindrill and fled with him. Nacalmo's wrath was greater than the heat of a fire elemental and he pursued Sindrill across ocean floor and chasm. Their battles were terrible. Tenyana, fearing for Sindrill's life and the lives of the Rebels, created a Horn - the Horn of the Seas.

It has but one purpose - to tell Tenyana where Sindrill is - so that she could escape and find him. She then gave the Horn to Sindrill and surrendered to Nacalmo. It was not enough though, Nacalmo's pride had been wounded and he'd sworn terrible oaths to kill Sindrill so he continued to pursue his foe. Eventually, there was the final battle. Sindrill's forces, with the hidden help of Tenyana, were victorious and the pursuers were nearly wiped out, but Sindrill was gravely wounded. Nacalmo retreated, with Tenyana a prisoner so that she would suffer for the rest of her days.

Sindrill intended for the Rebels to do something that had only been whispered about - to live above the waves. He believed that by living on the lands and rocks, that our brothers and sisters of the seas would not find us, as they had no regard or care for what was above the waves. So the elves came here, to Nicoer, and here Sindrill saw his first and last dawn above the waves, and died.

This has been hidden because we knew that the blood of our forefathers is in our veins, hot blooded, lustful, and yearning for war. The Elders of the cities and ships made a sacred oath that we would not pass this knowledge down, save between each others. That we would be the guardians against the wrath and vengeance that the elves of the seas would take upon us. That we would grow strong enough that even if we were found, we could prevail...

The Wild Folk Ranges cover very similar territory to the Dwarf Ranges, as well as the more “wild” places of the various Duchies – mountains, forests and places where populations of more “civilized” men are thin. The Duchies expect (and generally receive) the support of the tribes within their lands, and in return, they tend to leave the tribes alone, as long as laws are mutually respected.
The tribes that did live in the Duchy of Dawn were either driven out of their homes by the Bestials, or have gone into hiding, fighting a guerrilla-style war with the invaders.

Almon is a little known god, mainly only to the travelers. He is a quiet and unassuming god, appearing occasionally when the mood suits him. His avatar is usually of a weary, tired, road-worn traveler, accompanied by a three-legged dog and a raven.

Almon's priests, druids and monks are wanderers. Very few temples for him, but shrines are often at gathering places or near towns/villages kind to travellers.

Almon rarely directly aids those in need, instead letting them help themselves or letting his disciples provide.

This is because Almon sent his dog once to aid a champion of his; as a result, the dog lost a leg. Almon became angry and decided to go hands-off. This may also by why there are no paladins of Almon.

Almon is also known as The Endless Wanderer, Almon the Homeless, or The Eternal Traveler.

Overview
The Duchy of Irecia consists of the lands associated with the fabled city of Irecia. The Duchy long served as one of the breadbaskets of the Kingdom. The rulers of the Duchy are the Reynald family. The current Duke is Archanis Reynald.

The Duchy stretches from the Sithasten Mountains in the east to the down river stretch of the Northruns River to the west, from the Northruns River in the south to the Northreach Mountains in the north. It is a forty three day horse ride across the breadth of the Duchy, and only twenty-some days from the Northruns River in the south to the Northreach Mountains to the north.

Tribal Men Ranges are found in the Northreach Mountains. Beyond the Northreach Mountains lie Elven Coastal Lands and Islands. To the northeast, beyond the Sithastens, are Littleling Lands. Directly East beyond the Sithastens is the Duchy of Dawn.

The Ducal seat used to be located in Irecia, but when that city fell after The Doom, Duke Hector Reynald relocated to the Central Kingdom. After his death, Archanis remained in the Central Kingdom, although he still visits and maintains court at the Duke’s residence in the city of Rondorin. The Reynalds maintain their rule over the Duchy through the activity of the Marshalls still left.
The smoke from the burning taking the appearance of a wispy bird, which will take wing and fly to the nearest window or door, slipping through the cracks and off to deliver the message.
